More on the "Deep Throat" Theory"

Yesterday on my blog, I published the name that I seriously believe to be the confidential source known only as "deep throat" in the book All The Presidents Men.

I have never been able to confirm whether or not Mr. Dent was a heavy smoker or scotch drinker but let me propose the following to you for consideration.

Harry Dent was a special counsel to President Richard M. Nixon, and therefore in the president's "inner circle". He would have been privy to all of the information that Woodward and Bernstein lay out in their book. However, Mr. Dent has for many years been described as someone of high integrity and loyalty. "Deep Throat" never directly told Woodward and Bernstein anything he only confirmed things they asked him about. As Mr. Dent was an attorney, confirming things for them as a source without directly telling them would not violate the attorney/client privilege nor would it violate his loyalty to the President of the United States.

Second, "Deep Throat" retreated from the public eye after the watergate affair and All the Presidents Men. After Richard Nixon was reelected in 1972, Harry Dent left the Whitehouse and became general counsel of the RNC because he was dissolusioned with the administration and the direction it was taking. He worked on the reelection campaign of Gerald Ford in 1976 and retired from politics altogether to concentrate on spiritual activities because he found religion during the Nixon Administration.

Third, Harry Dent is the ONLY person in the Nixon Administration inner circle NOT to be mentioned one time in All the Presidents Men. What is interesting is that many other books on the Nixon Administration mention Harry Dent and others discuss him prominately.

Fourth, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein have stated that they will reveal the name of "Deep Throat" only upon the death of this mythical news source. In a recent article in a Columbia, South Carolina newspaper it was reported that Harry Dent was suffering from the final stages of Alzheimers Disease.

I have complete and total respect for Mr. Harry Dent and his family. This is not meant to disparage his name or character or name in any way whatsoever. It is merely a theory that I have that is based solely on the information that I present above.
